Applicants must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Applicants must also be able to communicate effectively with other staff and with park patrons.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor or designee, the incumbent will be assigned to the Regional Trails Crew.
The incumbent will be required to perform a wide range of trail construction and maintenance tasks.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
General trail corridor clearing and maintenance; Risk tree assessment and removal; Retaining wall construction and maintenance; Installation and maintenance of erosion control measures; Bridge and boardwalk maintenance; Trail surfacing installation and maintenance; Ensuring trail maps, signage, and markers are installed, updated, and visible; Operate assigned equipment used to meet project needs; Perform periodic maintenance of departmental tools, equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operating conditions; Assist with snowmobile and cross-country grooming as needed; Assist with trail mapping assignments, including the operation of GPS mapping tools and software; Prepare written reports on daily activities and trail conditions.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver's License as a term and condition of employment.
Must possess Game of Logging 1 and 2 certifications and Risk Tree Assessment or obtain them during the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.
Experience with equipment operation, trail maintenance activities, and a working knowledge of associated hand and power tools is preferred, but not required.
Must have experience with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word, etc.
), and other basic computer skills.
Must be self-motivated and be able to work independently in a highly responsible manner with limited supervision.
Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner under stressful conditions.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
